In anticipation of Opera Theatre of Saint Louis’s world premiere of Awakenings in June 2020, join us for a discussion that explores the themes of Dr. Oliver Sack’s book as they relate to today’s advances in Parkinson’s research and care.  The panel will explore the contest between care and cure, the questions of patient and doctor subjectivity, and the overarching question of what it means to be human—on both sides of the stethoscope.

Panelists will include Dr. Joel Perlmutter, Elliot Stein Family Professor of Neurology, and representatives from Washington University’s Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Divisions.  Rebecca Messbarger, Founding Director of Medical Humanities at Washington University, will serve as moderator and an artist from Opera Theatre’s 2020 Festival Season will offer a brief preview of the music from Awakenings.

Ticket reservations coming soon. Until then, please call (314) 963-4222 for more information.
