Breaking the Glass Ceiling: Women in the Director’s Chair

Opera Theatre St. Louis Event Image
  • Tuesday, April 28
  • 6 p.m.
  • Lewis Rice, 600 Washington Avenue, Suite 2500
  • Free to attend but reservations required due to limited capacity

In the opera world, the director of a production is a person with real agency.  The director determines the concept for the production, controls the representation onstage, and influences how we experience the story.  The director is also responsible for ensuring that the many elements required for opera — music, drama, visual art, and choreography — work together to create a cohesive experience for both artists and audience.

Moderator Adrienne Davis will talk with internationally acclaimed artists Patricia Racette (Susannah), Rodula Gaitanou (Carmen), and Shawna Lucey (Die Fledermaus) about their work as stage directors at Opera Theatre of Saint Louis this season and will explore their work as leaders and storytellers; an artist from Opera Theatre’s 2020 Festival Season will offer musical selections to complement the discussion.

Ticket reservations coming soon. Until then, please call (314) 963-4222 for more information.
