NEW! Bring
live opera to your classroom!
Introduce
your students to the fantastic world of opera through mini-workshops
in acting, singing styles and make-up. Designed for
young people in grades 3-12, the program ends with a 40 minute
semi-staged performance by four of OTSL’s outstanding
Gerdine Young Artists with piano accompaniment. They
will present favorites from Bizet’s Carmen,
Pucinni’s La Bohéme, Rossini’s The
Barber of Seville and more, using a traveling set, props
and costumes.
Acting
Workshop:
Acting
is an important part of stage performance. Students
will learn how the body can express meaning and emotion without
the use of words.
Singing
Styles Workshop:
Students
will experience live demonstrations of a variety of song
styles, including folk, ballad, gospel, rock and classical
art song.
Stage
Make-up Workshop:
Singers
must master basic make-up techniques to create their character’s
age, personality and appearance. Students will learn
a few of these basic techniques as they see a participant
transformed before their eyes.
Opera
on the GO! is two hours long and is recommended
for no more than 100 students. The program
is available from October 24 – November 5, 2005 and
can be scheduled from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. The program
requires a tuned piano in good condition, three separate
spaces to accommodate the workshops, including a performance
space of 30’x20’. The cost per performance
