Dear
Friend of Opera Theatre,
Since 1976, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis has enjoyed tremendous
success. With the assistance of loyal benefactors, we have built
a national and international reputation by presenting the finest
young American artists in productions of the highest quality.
But we cannot rest on our laurels. Opera Theatre is now poised to
move to a higher level of artistic achievement and organizational
effectiveness. The company is uniquely positioned to become the
nation's foremost center for advancement in all aspects of opera
production, offering intensive study and professional stage experience
for young performers and artisans.
At
the same time, we must extend our presence in the local community,
developing young talent and nurturing the audiences of tomorrow.
The Building for Opera campaign will allow us to improve
our administrative, artistic and educational facilities, attract
the finest artists, and continue to balance the budget. The Opera
Center will be a permanent home for the company, and a facility
for rehearsal, community outreach and administration. It will relieve
overcrowding in OTSL's current offices, as well as providing truly
effective spaces for rehearsals and community programs.
Every year visitors to Opera Theatre marvel at the adventurous spirit
and loyalty of the St. Louis community, whose generosity has inspired
the arts world as it has propelled the company to the forefront
of opera in America. We know that Opera Theatre's stature in the
local and national community ultimately rests on the success of
this campaign, and hope you will participate in the most generous
way possible.

One
key for survival [is] for companies to find new ways
to make opera touch the hearts of the communities they
serve...Opera Theatre of Saint Louis has done that very
thing.
