"Opera theatre is like an exotic flower that blossoms in the spring. The theatre has an intimate quality, so the performances have an immediacy which makes opera here seem more a living theatrical tradition than a museum culture."
The New York Times
There's nothing grand thank goodness, about Opera Theatre...There's no snobbery about opera at Loretto-Hilton...the drama in opera is taken seriously here. Tired traditions are never treated as if they were sacrosanct. It all seems virtually un-American. Also refreshing.
Financial Times, London

Each spring we offer a festival season of quality productions sung in English by the best young American singers, all accompanied by members of the Saint Louis Symphony.

Surrounded by green lawns and gardens full of flowers, our elegant small theater is an idyllic setting for music on summer evenings. OTSL's welcoming atmosphere means that everyone in the audience can meet the artists - and visitors who came to us last season from 42 states and 15 foreign countries - in our green-and-white tent after performances.

Add to that apprentice programs at all levels and year-round education programs all across St. Louis community, and see why OTSL was one of only two opera companies among 28 "exemplary arts organizations" to get major Ford Foundation grants and why the London Times called Opera Theatre "magic on the Mississippi."

We welcome you to our webpage - and hope to see you at the opera!
