THE GOLDEN TICKET
A new opera based on Roald Dahl's
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Music by Peter Ash,
Libretto by Donald Sturrock - 2010
WORLD PREMIERE

The Golden Ticket is a deliciously layered fable with fantasy and comedy about the power of generosity and fearless imagination.  The music is beautiful, with sophisticated vocal writing and wonderful scenes you'll remember from the book: chocolate rivers, inflating blueberries, and magic elevators.  The Golden Ticket is admission to a magical land of fantastic experiences.  Tracy Dahl returns to OTSL as Violet Beauregard and Daniel Okulitch debuts as Willy Wonka.

The production will be staged by Opera Theatre's Artistic Director James Robinson and conducted by newcomer Timothy Redmond, with sets by Bruno Schwengl, costumes by Martin Pakledinaz, and choreography by Seán Curran.

The Golden Ticket is a co-production with the American Lyric Theater and the Wexford Festival Opera.

Commissioned by American Lyric Theater, Lawrence Edelson Producing Artistic Director, and Felicity Dahl.   The world premiere production is made possible with a leadership gift from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and with generous support from The Saigh Foundation and the Fred M. Saigh Endowment at Opera Theatre and the National Endowment for the Arts.  Family ticket pricing and promotional events are made possible with a generous gift from Campbell-Avery Fund of the Greater St. Louis Community Foundation.  Special thanks to lead corporate sponsor MasterCard Worldwide.

Developmental support in the United Kingdom was provided by the Royal National Theatre Studio and the National Enowment for Science, Technology and the Arts.  Presented by arrangement with American Lyric Theater Center, Inc., in partnership with Music Link International, copyright owner.
