EUGENE ONEGIN - 1881 Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky
Tatiana is instantly infatuated with Onegin, an urbane visitor to her family's estate, and impulsively writes him a passionate letter. He humiliates the young girl, belittling her "childish" notions of love.
After years of aimless travel abroad, Onegin arrives at a ball in St. Petersburg. He is immediately captivated by his beautiful, sophisticated hostess and is astonished to learn that she is Tatiana, the girl he rejected so long ago.
Tchaikovsky's setting of Pushkin's Eugene Onegin, one of the most beloved works of Russian literature, is a masterpiece.
Christopher Magiera and Dina Kuznetsova make OTSL debuts as Onegin and Tatiana, with Sean Pannikar returning as Onegin's friend, Lenski. David Agler is the conductor and Kevin Newbury makes his debut as director; sets are designed by Allen Moyer and costumes by Martin Pakledinaz.
This new production is made possible with support from the National Endowment for the Arts and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
