THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO - 1786 Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
The key to this opera is understanding who is chasing whom. The Countess still loves the Count. Well, she does think that Cherubino is awfully cute, but that’s only because the Count has eyes for Susanna, who is engaged to Figaro. Meanwhile, Barbarina is also crazy about Cherubino who is really interested in anything in a skirt except Marcellina, who is after Figaro until she finds out that…
Comic chaos turns into blissful resolve and raucous hilarity into revelations about love and what it means to forgive. Only a genius like Mozart could make The Marriage of Figaro as funny — and relevant — today as when it premiered in 1786.
Amanda Majeski and Maria Kanyova return as the Countess and Susanna; Christopher Feigum (who played the same character in last season’s The Ghosts of Versailles) is Figaro. OTSL Artistic Director James Robinson directs, Bruno Schwengl designs, and Timothy Long conducts.
