Opera Theatre helped pioneer Music! Words! Opera!, which was developed under the aegis of OPERA America and is now in place in hundreds of schools across the U.S.  Its sequenced resource materials present opera as something everyone can understand and enjoy.  The textbooks are divided into two sections; "Listen and Discover" introduces students to operas chosen for their appeal to children of a particular age, and "Create and Produce" involves students in writing and performing an original opera with story and music of their own creation.  This program is designed for teachers with students in grades K - 12.  In addition, teacher training is offered each summer for veterans and newcomers throughout the Midwest with the goal of placing the Music! Words! Opera! curriculum in an increasing number of schools and positioning St. Louis as a regional training center.
